10 Miles

So some of you may or may not know but I am in process of training for a 1/2 marathon April 4th.  Had my longest run to date (and of my life) at 10 miles, finished it in about 90 min.  That's three episodes of Family Guy (which now that I think about it, isn't THAT bad).  Back on track, as I walked home from the gym I realized, I just ran the St Jude's Bike a Thon.  Now I'm not sure if all of you know what this event is but back in Morganville Kansas in the 80s and 90s, the St Jude's Bike a Thon was a BIG deal.  Basically it's a 10 mile bike ride and you get "sponsors" to pledge so much per mile.  I rocked out 10 miles every single time.  So I'm comparing the two and going over the route in my mind, and I thought, man that's a long friggin way to run.  Granted my run lacked the hills of the Bike a Thon route but still, 10 miles is a long way.  What's even funnier is I think I may have actually ran it faster than I rode it as a kid.  Oh well, 4 blisters and 90 min of my life later, I'd knocked out the 10 miles, only 3 more to tack onto that and I'll hit the goal.  It's gonna be a bear and a half, I'm totally wiped out right now and have more blisters than I've ever had on my feet at anyone time.  To coaches Nelson and Lane, I'm running more than 300m, never ever thought in a million years that would happen.  Now it's off to errands.  Fun stuff.

Video of the Week

What started as  a post because I couldn't think of anything to write about and I don't really have time turned into something that will be a good filler for every week, a Video of the Week.  I watch a ton of clips and viral videos so why not share some of the best ones I come across.  Here's this weeks; a little red-headed kid lip syncing and dancing.  This kid is awesome, I want to hang out with him.

Presidential Address to Congress

So... I'm watching the Presidential Address am I the only one annoyed by Pilosi jumping up like a dang jack in the box every time Obama pauses to take a breath? I mean I understand it's the President and he's throwin' haymakers up there tonight but come on do we need a standing O after everything he says? Sit Down Nancy, I mean I am very interested in this speech as are most all Americans given the condition of the country right now; but Nancy, your constant spasms of standing up are single handedly delaying the start of Law and Order SVU, which I find troubling.

Home for the Weekend

Took a quick trip home this weekend to drop the puppy off with Jim and Linda.  Gonna be a little quiet around here without her, but she'll have more fun there than being at the Dog Boarder for 3 weeks while we're in Australia.

While home went back to the old college stomping grounds to play a little poker and partake in some adult beverages.  I am convienced that the Salt Mine laces there beer with something.  That is the only explanation I have for the way I felt after consuming only two of there libations.

All in all the weekend was a good time got to see some of the family, some good friends and had some good times.

Oh.... about the poker, I lost.  It was only $20 buy in, but the way I lost was pretty embarrassing.  I believe I'll be spending some time on the web playing some Texas Hold 'Em to prepare for next years showdown.

Watchmen

I can't wait for March 6, 2009.  For those of you unaware that is the date when the Watchmen hit theaters.   Now I will admit right upfront that a LARGE majority of my hype for this movie is self built and is largely tied to two things 1) the amazing previews, that make this movie look larger than life and 2) Director Zack Snyder.  I know it's very odd to see a director's name listed as a reason for being excited about a movie.  Usually its the the leading man or lady that gets you hooked into a movie.  However in this case I'm betting on Zack Snyder throwing down another awesome movie, he was the man behind 300, a movie that I consider one of the best movies of my generation.  It's really hard to describe the style, I call it brilliant, but I've also heard that it's "all or nothing."  You either love his style or you hate it, I've heard very little in the way of middle ground.

Watchmen isn't an "original" idea it's an adaptation of a comic book series released in the late 80s and later as a graphic novel.  Its the latest in a line of comic books to silver screen movies (Daredevil, Hulk, Batman, Superman, X-Men, I could go on and on).  Based on the success of past movies why not.  I'm particularly excited about this movie because I have only a slight idea about the plot and story.  Whereas with more "mainstream" characters, you have a good idea going in what "could" happen.  I was never into comics and I have never read the graphic novel but I am so intrigued by this story that I plan to read it on my trip to Australia in a couple of weeks.  Hopefully soon after the 6th I'll be able to provide a movie review.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about there's tons of preview floating around on Youtube, you should check them out.

So it Begins...

Well here it goes (again) I'm going to try my hand at a blog and this time I'm going to try very hard to stick with it.  This will be I believe my 3rd or 4th attempt.  A word of warning, this blog has potential to be pretty random in nature.  I really don't have a "theme."  So with out further a do.  Here we go...
